Awesome article from Avirup Ghosh.
I read the article and this is amongst the best article I would say...although at some points this article gives a sarcastic tone but message is very clear...we should uplift our deliverables...
Here is the Article: (Part 1)
India is such a country where still we are fighting for getting a small job, though its not a new issue for us, unemployment is one of the biggest problem here for a long time. Now the current addition into it is “ jobless person holding an MBA degree ”. Yeah, its shocking. Now the question arises, what’s wrong with MBA? Is MBA losing its pride?
Its really a complex situation. In the initial stage of MBA, there were only IIMs & some well known top class B schools. Due to its rare existence, it was then very difficult and very competitive to get a chance there, but the person who could crack it, also made his life. So society showed a huge respect towards the MBA holders, but now situations are totally different.
BUSINESS ASPECT OF MBA
India is now developing economically day by day. Moderation in the growth rate has come with some good news, with the country’s per capita income expecting to more than double over the last seven years to RS 38,084 in 2008-09, reflecting improvement in the living standards of an average Indian, that’s the reason why the Indian family are now capable of investing money for their children’s education. For some thinking businessmen it was the absolute platform to invest. What they did, they just simplified the admission criteria of MBA to attract huge portion of the student society and the result of it, you can now find an MBA institute here and there. From business perspective, yes, its a great move, but is it same from the general point of view? Every parent wants their children must do something which could make a statement of pride in the society and initially MBA was such a course which was a dream for everyone. Some great brains ( say, business Guru ) just started to use this sentiment and was able to make the course MBA as a profitable business venture.
A businessman can say...........
• making it easier to get admission, we can now able to attract those who doesn’t want to look at MBA as their career,
• they can get the chance to acquire a mature knowledge about industry,
• its better to do and know something rather than knowing nothing,
I am not denying all these and I am not also against the fact that everybody should get proper education, but what I believe is, “ higher education shouldn’t be for all, there must be tough competition & only the cream students should get the opportunity ”, unless it would be frustrating for the students when we take account the job factor. Actually the growing rate of MBA students is much more higher than the existing job opportunities in India, so its natural for lots of student being unemployed though having MBA under their belt. Its almost like “IT” (engineering) industry now a days where you can easily find a engineer but hard to find a quality one. Jayanta Sinha, partner at Mckinsey said, "The skills and quality of the workforce need to be improved, since only 25 percent of technical graduates and 10 percent to 15 percent of general college graduates are suitable for employment in the offshore IT and BPO industries respectively." This is the major issue when you follow the concept “MAKE IT FOR ALL”, you have to compromise somewhere with the quality of it.
