Power Words for your Resume

Resume is the first activity that decides your fate or receiving a preliminary interview call or not. An intelligent and powerful resume helps recruiter in building a powerful image of yours in her mind.
Here are some of the sample "words" that adds power to your resume:

'Management' capabilities: At your level of experience the capability to manage or delegate tasks to teammates to achieve work objectives is an important deliverable. Consider using words like achieved, handled, launched, inspired, led, conceived, & encouraged, etc. endorse your abilities as a manager.

'Teamwork' related words: Teamwork is more important than ever in the workplace. Words like motivated, coached, expedited, advised, inspired, moderated, coordinated, etc. can express your team engagement capabilities.

'Versatility': Employers value workers who are flexible and able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously. In other words, it's sometimes important to be able to handle multiple responsibilities with equal flair.

'Detail-Oriented': Employers want to know that they can trust workers to handle a project down to the last detail. It implies being organized and meticulous about your work and that you can work without constant supervision and act independently. Try words like streamlined, systemized, organized, monitored & gathered, etc. to convey this ability in your career accomplishments.

'Self-Motivated': Employers value employees who are self-starters; people who can generate their own ideas and follow them through to fruition. A self-motivated worker goes the extra mile and does not need direction time & again.

USE THESE WORDS AND SEE HOW THEY INCREASE YOUR INTERVIEW CALLS CHANCES...Happy Job Hunting

Self Confidence by 11 SImply Rules - Part 3

Article compiled by Rahul Bharti (MBA)

9) Speak up:
Its a general observation that many people are afraid to speak or ask questions in a group discussion or a public gathering. They are afraid that they might be judged for saying something stupid. Generally, people are much more accepting than we imagine. In fact most people are dealing with the exact same fears. By making an effort to speak up at least once in every group discussion, you'll become a better public speaker, more confident in your own thoughts, and recognized as a leader by your peers.

10) Work out:
A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. If you are fit, you are surrounded by positivism and energy. If you are out of shape you feel unattractive. This leads to demoralization. Just a little discipline in your life can help shape up your self confidence in a big way.

11) Smile:
Last but not the least; try to smile as much as possible. People are always appreciative of a smiling face. You will be welcomed by anyone who comes in your contact. A smiling face is always received with warmth and affection. Acceptance and recognition from others helps in building self confidence.

THANK YOU RAHUL FOR SHARING THIS IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION.

Self Confidence by 11 Simple Rules - Part 2

Article compiled by Rahul Bharti (MBA)

5) Dress sharp:
Although clothes don't make the man, they certainly affect the way he feels about himself. When you don’t look good, you don’t feel good. It changes the way you carry yourself and interact with people. This doesn’t means you need to spend a lot on clothes. Rather than buying a bunch of cheap clothes, buy half as many select, high quality items. In long run this decreases spending because expensive clothes wear out less easily and stay in style longer than cheap clothes.

6) Walk faster:
Your gait tells a lot about your personality. Is it slow? Tired? Painful? Or is it energetic and purposeful? People with confidence walk quickly. They have places to go, people to see, and important work to do. You can increase yourself confidence by putting some pep in your step. Walking 25% faster will make to you look and feel more important.

7) Compliment other people:
When we think negatively about ourselves, we often project that feeling on to others in the form of insults and gossip. Refuse to engage in backstabbing gossip and make an effort to compliment those around you. In the process, you’ll become well liked and build self confidence. By looking for the best in others, you indirectly bring out the best in yourself.

8) Take the front seat:
Back benchers might seem to have a lot of fun in schools and colleges but that does nothing to boost their self confidence. Don't be afraid to get noticed. By deciding to sit in the front row, you can get over your irrational fear of getting noticed and build your self confidence.

Self Confidence By 11 Simple Rules - Part 1

Self Confidence By 11 Simple Rules (COmpiled by Rahul Bharti (MBA))

Self confidence gives us the freedom to commit mistakes and cope with failure without making us feel worthless. If only we have confidence in ourselves, can we gain confidence of others?
After all, most people are reluctant to back a project that’s being pitched by
someone who is nervous, fumbling and overly apologetic.

On the other hand, you might be persuaded by someone who spoke clearly, who held his or her head high, who answered questions assuredly, and who readily admitted when he/she did not know something.

So where do you rate yourself on the scale of 1-10 for your confidence level? Do you think you fall in the low confidence bracket? Here is some good news for you. And the good news is that self-confidence can be learned and built on.

Let’s start the process of building self-confidence. Remember there is no quick fix solution for it. Nonetheless, practice makes a man perfect. So all you have to do is try and implement the following given tips in your day to day life.

1) Recognize your insecurities:
We all have insecurities in life. It can be anything from acne, to regrets, to friends at school. Giving a name to the things which make you feel unworthy, ashamed or inferior helps to combat them. You can try to pen down your thoughts and you will find that it makes you feel much lighter and happier. Remember that no one is perfect. The man or woman sitting next to you might have the same amount of insecurities as you have. If writing doesn’t come easily to you, you might want to talk it out with your friends or loved ones. Sharing your thoughts will help relieve the burden you have been carrying all alone.

2) Identify your successes:
No matter how insecure you might feel, God has blessed each one of us with some talent. Discover the things you are good at and then focus on improving them. Give yourself permission to take pride in your talents. Give yourself credit for your successes. Inferiority is a state of mind in which youve declared yourself a victim. Do not allow yourself to be victimized.

3) Be thankful for what you have:
A lot of the times, at the root of insecurity and lack of confidence is a feeling of not having enough of something, whether its emotional validation, good luck, money, etc. By acknowledging and appreciating what you do have, you can combat the feeling of being incomplete and unsatisfied. Finding that inner peace will do wonders for your confidence.

4) Be positive:
Avoid self-pity or sympathy of others. Never allow others to make you feel inferior they can only do so if you let them. If you continue to loathe and belittle yourself, others are going to do and believe likewise. Instead, speak positively about yourself, about your future, and about your progress. Do not be afraid to project your strengths and qualities to others.

5 Golden Rules of Effective Negotiation - Part 2

here comes the IInd part of the "5 Golden Rules of Effective Negotiation"

Rule #4 - Understand Cultural Differences
What culture you were raised in may make a difference in your outlook on negotiation. Many people born in the United States are used to a “pre-packaged” society. Most of us go into a store and accept the marked prices. Have you ever gone into a Home Depot and tried to negotiate for a better price on a new refrigerator? Why not? It can be done; all you have to do is ask and present your case. You never know, they may be willing to negotiate. In many European and Latin cultures, negotiation is expected. Ask for “complimentary upgrades” on flights or hotel rooms. You do not have to be a frequent flier, just ask. Ask for a “complimentary waiver” on the luggage fees. Just because you are not used to asking for what you want, does not make it rude when you do. Don’t wait until you are outside of the United States to practice – start now.

Rule #5 – Practice, Practice, Practice
Negotiation is a skill, which means it can be learned by anyone. It may not happen immediately; some practice might be needed. Put aside cultural biases and start. Practice everywhere, at the restaurant, at the dollar store, at the airlines. Doing so will get you in the habit of asking. If you ask someone who does not have the “authority” to approve such a request, ask to speak to the person who does, and ask them for what you want. When they say “no,” find out why not. Always smile, keep an even voice, don’t make threats, and thank them for their time and explanation. Practice at home by doing what kids do. They ask you once, twice, and again. The next day they come and repeat their request. You don’t always give in, but they know the odds are in their favor if they don’t accept the first “no.” Be committed to the win-win. You are not going in for the kill. You are going in to reach a mutual agreement on solving a common problem.

Try them and you will see success coming to your hands

5 Golden Rules of Effective Negotiation - Part 1

Very useful for all MBAs.

Rule #1 - Always Ask
You never know what you can get—not unless you ask for it. This rule covers everything you want, and everything you think you may want. So many of us do not get what we deserve simply because we do not ask. Because of this, negotiation should be thought of as one of the most-used tools in your life. We negotiate daily for the things that we want and need.

Rule #2 - Know What You Want
It is difficult to have a successful negotiation if you don’t know what you want out of it. Are you attempting to get something? Get rid of something? Once you have considered the possible outcomes, you can decide how you will respond if it does not end up in your favor. Just as you should know what you want, you should also know what you don’t want. What is totally unacceptable, your deal breaker? Having a clear vision of the desired final outcome on this mutual agreement will make it easier for you as you work your way through the negotiating process.

Rule #3 - Prepare for the Type of Negotiating You Will Be Doing
Les Brown said, “It is better to be prepared for an opportunity and not have one, than to have an opportunity and not be prepared.” Understanding the different types of negotiations will determine how much preparation you will need. There are five types of negotiations and understanding them will determine how much preparation you will need.

Negotiation is a win-win situation...Not always somebody has to lose and somebody has to win...Negotiation is the middle path where both the party wins.

Rule # 4 and 5 will be coming shortly..Stay Tuned...

Women Empowerment - The Mahabharata way

Very nice, interesting and thoughtful corelation of womempowerment via Mahabharata Epic.

Kauravas : Patriarchal structure. Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Dhratarashtra, Vidur, Shakuni, Duryodhana, Karna, Duhsasana. No women in the decision making process.
Gandhari retreated to the Inner Chambers. Nobody listened to her.

Pandavas : Matriarchal Structure.
Kunti was the authority supreme for the Pandavas.
“Whatever my mother says is Dharma to me” : Yudhisthira.
Draupadi was a companion in whatever the Pandavas did. She had a big role in all the decision making. Without her the Pandavas would have most probably reclined to the forests.
Even the younger Pandavas : Ghatotkach, Abhimnanyu and Iravan were brought up by their mothers. So the female influence was huge.

Women = Better Half. Any team which doesn't have women is unbalanced, for the Masculine traits of Aggression and Dominance should be balanced by the Feminine traits of Harmony and Sustenance.

PROVERBS IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT

//if you read them carefully you will find them very close to truth...

• The same work under the same conditions will be estimated differently by ten different estimators or by one estimator at ten different times.
• The most valuable and least used word in project manager’s vocabulary is “NO”.
• You can con a sucker into committing an unreasonable deadline, but you can’t bully him into meeting it.
• You cannot produce a baby in one month by impregnating nine women.
• The more ridiculous the deadline, the more it costs to try to meet it.
• The more desperate the situation, the more optimistic is the situate.
• You can freeze the user’s specs but he won’t stop expecting.
• What is not on paper has not been said.
• No major project has ever installed on time, within budget, with the same staff that started it.
• Projects progress quickly until they become 90 percent complete; then they remain 90 percent complete forever.

Computer and Projects - funny ones

Any project associated with computers will have following corollaries.

 Any given program when running is obsolete.
 Any given program will expand to fill the available memory.
 Undetectable errors are infinite in their variety.
 A computer program never does what you want, but only what you tell it to do.
 Computers are unreliable, but Humans are worse.
 Adding manpower to late software projects will make it later.
 There is always one more bug.

MURPHY’S LAW AS APPLIED TO PROJECTS

MURPHY’S LAW AS APPLIED TO PROJECTS

 If something can go wrong on a Project it will.
 Things tend to go from Bad to Worse.
 Nothing is as easy as it looks.
 Every thing takes longer than you think.
 Nothing ever gets built on schedule or within budget.
 To spot the expert, pick the one who predicts the job will take the longest and cost the most.
 All's well that ends.
 Sooner or later, the worst possible set of circumstances is bound to occur.
 It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious.
 The primary function of the design engineer is to make things difficult for the fabricator and impossible for the serviceman.
 Firmness of delivery dates is inversely proportional to the tightness of schedule.
 The remaining work to finish in order to reach your goal increases as the deadline approaches.
 An object or a piece of information when most needed will be the least available.
 In any collection of data, the figure most obviously correct beyond all need of checking is a mistake.
 If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause most disruption will go wrong.
 Failures will not occur until the Final inspection.

MBA Article 2: .....WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WOMAN......

.....WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WOMAN......

Women entrepreneur in India-

A SOLID article from Saba Hussain (MBA)...thought provoking and inspirational.

From the last few years women are entering in the corporate word and proving themselves. in the most of the successful companies the CEO are female, it shows the improving status of women in our society, but out of this bright side there is also a dark side, a large par of Indian society still creates obstacles in there path of success & always put a finger. Although in comparison of the past now the condition are much batter and of course their conscience to gain a status in the society to meet their dreams.
Women is the best example of entrepreneur because they advent very dramatically in each and every field with effective managerial and risk calculating skills.

THE LADY OF THE HOUSE-
Being able to manage cost better an ability that comes with firefighting with various income and dreams together at home and at workplace is a huge plus. A women will not stingily with bonus, but it can be only a man’s idea to give the staff a gold coin during Diwali. What do you do with a gold coin I gave everybody a pen I used. A gift is personal. it build solidarity.

THE WAR OF THE WORLD-
A female boss has to work hard to prove our self; she is a burning candle at both the end. Traditional avenues available to the women as teachers and doctors, today’s corporate or corporative world is one of the hierarchy.
If a woman and man are colleagues on the same function, and the women is average- there is no rivalry because the women will make the man look good. But if she is better the man can’t take it, as she will make the man look bad.
When you talk in terms of vice-president or an assistant manager, you have to adopt a behavior to be up and running and be who are in the space,” The bottom-line is – Man or Women- it’s all about performance. But right now the news is: it’s WOMEN ON TOP.

SECRETS OF HER SUCCESS-
• DESIRE TO WIN
• EXCEL IN THE FIELD OF EMOTIONAL INTALLIGENCE
• DESIRE TO BECOME ECONOMICALLY INDEPENDENT
The main problem I think which are facing by the women are-
• Socio-cultural factors, sociocultural factors are the main hindrances in their success path. Peoples always put finger on them.
• Economic dependency on their family.
• India is a man dominant country.
• Small scale industries always facing the problems in the marketing of their products.

MBA Article: MBA losing its Pride??? - Part 2

Here comes the PART 2 in continuation to PART 1 of MBA Article series (MBA Losing its pride??? by Avirup Ghosh)

COOL LIFE STYLE
We are the young blood of the country. History says, it is that portion of the society who are always there for the betterment of the society, but still is it the same or is it now a myth? No, its not a myth, still there are lots of youth who are responsible for India’s growth, but due to huge growth of population, the good ones and the bad ones both are coming out in a massive quantity. Our problem consists with in that group of disturbing elements among the youth. Now let try to relate those guys with MBA.
What’s the picture comes in mind when we think of an MBA grad......its almost like smart, knowledgeable, punctual, little bit of serious..........If you are thinking like that then I will must say, ha ha ha. Just follow the routine of an MBA.....
09 am : good morning
10 am : always late in college ( but have to go, actually girlfriend/boyfriend is waiting )
10-5 pm : canteen.........park.......theater
after 5 pm to mid night : busy with mobile & chatting in orkut, face book, music, totally party mood......
Not only in MBA, this is the modern take over education by some super intellectual (!!!!!!!) students. These unwanted children are the real culprit of diminishing the value of education, and in MBA, just don’t ask. Then why they are here? How they are getting the open door? Its simple, if you have bucks in your pocket anything can happen, that’s our system. There are lots of MBA institutes where money is the only admission criterion, capability is ony the secondary thing. Once I went to try my luck in a well known institute of NCR, and I informed the director of that institute, “ sir, my graduation percentage is not up to the mark......”, he just stooped me and replied, “ my dear son, next time when you will come, bring with you 6.5 lacs, I am ensuring you there will be no percentage issue......”, don’t get shocked, this is also MBA.

BLAMING OTHERS ISN’T THE SOLUTION FOR STUDENTS
Its a very tough situation for an MBA holder who is not able to find a good job. So, now days a new fashion is introduced, “blaming management.” But the students also have to think and look inside first before blaming others. I am also doing my MBA and I know well what’s the psychology of a huge portion of modern students, just ask them why you have joined MBA and you will find the blank faces of them, just thinking and thinking, they have no proper goal, aim, for them its like a two years time pass.........there is not any other thing to do that's why they are here.........some guys’ girl friends are doing MBA, that's why they too........it sounds funny, but that’s the crude reality. I am not telling all are the same, but due to those ‘intruders’, MBA is now losing its pride. Those guys don't know how to behave, how to speak, what’s going on in the industry, and the worst thing is that they are also not interested to work on those flaws. Instead of that these are the guys who shout most for the job, ‘this is not good’, ‘this is a low profile’, etc etc........my dear friend, show your worth first, then only claim. Blaming others can’t be a solution but a trick to run away from the situation.

EDUCATION MUST BE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT BUT MBA ? ? ?
Education is now the fundamental right of each and every Indian under the age group of 6 to 14, it’s the only way which can take our country ahead. In a country like India of more than 100 cores of population, we have 480 universities and 22000 colleges, and still only 12.4% are involved themselves in higher education. Indian govt. is now in a mission to increase that percentage to 30 and for that 800 universities and 35000 colleges are needed. Its really a great move, more education means more mature thinking. But it doesn’t mean every course should be for all, if we talk about fundamental or basic education, there must be no issues, but when it comes to the specialization then that should be restricted only for specialist. If we place anyone in the field of science and research, that would be the waste of resources and it also affects the quality of that field. Similarly MBA shouldn’t be for anyone and the quality of this field should not be compromised by money, I am not against business but there must be certain things to look at, aiming towards the short term profit, ultimately we are going to loose massively in the long journey. Its better to be a simple graduate rather than an unsuccessful MBA and that is why the sudden frustration arises among the MBA aspirants. Its not due the recession, its not due to the global economical debacle, yes, its true that the market is affected hugely due to it, but still you will find, huge amount of guys are doing well, getting great jobs.........and the main reason behind it is, ‘they are the real MBA’, they have the quality to keep that degree into their kitty.......you will never see those guys are crying for anything and everything, because they know well that they deserve it and the rest of all are as like as a poet who is sent to the battle field. In spite of being an MBA I will still say, there are lots of flaws among us, we need to rectify it first, as for blaming, it could be done after that.
I want to wrap up this article with a question, Mr. Mukesh Ambani is an MBA and me too, “don’t you think, I am reducing the glory of MBA?” I am requesting all the MBA aspirants, just ask yourself the same question once........remember it is we who can bring the change.

Regards,
Avirup Ghosh (MBA)

MBA Article 1: MBA : LOSING ITS PRIDE ? ? ?

Awesome article from Avirup Ghosh.

I read the article and this is amongst the best article I would say...although at some points this article gives a sarcastic tone but message is very clear...we should uplift our deliverables...

Here is the Article: (Part 1)

India is such a country where still we are fighting for getting a small job, though its not a new issue for us, unemployment is one of the biggest problem here for a long time. Now the current addition into it is “ jobless person holding an MBA degree ”. Yeah, its shocking. Now the question arises, what’s wrong with MBA? Is MBA losing its pride?
Its really a complex situation. In the initial stage of MBA, there were only IIMs & some well known top class B schools. Due to its rare existence, it was then very difficult and very competitive to get a chance there, but the person who could crack it, also made his life. So society showed a huge respect towards the MBA holders, but now situations are totally different.
BUSINESS ASPECT OF MBA
India is now developing economically day by day. Moderation in the growth rate has come with some good news, with the country’s per capita income expecting to more than double over the last seven years to RS 38,084 in 2008-09, reflecting improvement in the living standards of an average Indian, that’s the reason why the Indian family are now capable of investing money for their children’s education. For some thinking businessmen it was the absolute platform to invest. What they did, they just simplified the admission criteria of MBA to attract huge portion of the student society and the result of it, you can now find an MBA institute here and there. From business perspective, yes, its a great move, but is it same from the general point of view? Every parent wants their children must do something which could make a statement of pride in the society and initially MBA was such a course which was a dream for everyone. Some great brains ( say, business Guru ) just started to use this sentiment and was able to make the course MBA as a profitable business venture.
A businessman can say...........
• making it easier to get admission, we can now able to attract those who doesn’t want to look at MBA as their career,
• they can get the chance to acquire a mature knowledge about industry,
• its better to do and know something rather than knowing nothing,
I am not denying all these and I am not also against the fact that everybody should get proper education, but what I believe is, “ higher education shouldn’t be for all, there must be tough competition & only the cream students should get the opportunity ”, unless it would be frustrating for the students when we take account the job factor. Actually the growing rate of MBA students is much more higher than the existing job opportunities in India, so its natural for lots of student being unemployed though having MBA under their belt. Its almost like “IT” (engineering) industry now a days where you can easily find a engineer but hard to find a quality one. Jayanta Sinha, partner at Mckinsey said, "The skills and quality of the workforce need to be improved, since only 25 percent of technical graduates and 10 percent to 15 percent of general college graduates are suitable for employment in the offshore IT and BPO industries respectively." This is the major issue when you follow the concept “MAKE IT FOR ALL”, you have to compromise somewhere with the quality of it.
....
